Staying Healthy
The best medicine is good health. Do what you can to stay healthy.
- Walk for at least 30 minutes a day. Take the stairs if you're going only
one or two floors. When you walk, you will feel better if you walk fast and
with purpose.
- Let the sunlight shine on your skin every day. That lets your body make
Vitamin D, which is a cancer fighter.
- Vaccines will prevent many painful and expensive diseases, so try to get
any that you haven't had already. Vaccinations often are offered free of
charge to those who cannot afford to pay.
- Take a multi-vitamin every day, which will just cost a couple of cents if
you buy a knock-off and not a big name brand.
- Don't accidentally take too much of any drug, which is easy to do if you
take two medicines that have some of the same active ingredients. Too much
aspirin, for example, can actually give you a headache (along with other
unpleasant side effects).
- You've already heard about overweight and smoking, and you know it's true,
and you know what you need to do.
- If you develop a frightening symptom like an unexpected lump or bleeding,
go to the doctor. There is a good chance it is not cancer, and early
treatment is best whether it is or is not.
- If you are pregnant, be sure to do a prenatal visit at a clinic. They can
tell you how to keep your baby and yourself healthy and happy.
- If you receive some prescription medicines, be sure and follow the label
instructions. If you do not, the drugs can fail to work or even work against
you.
Good Luck and Good Health!
